Hi Mrs Wibs and ChrisWibs
Wondering if you can help please ?
In the 1841 census, Catherine and Samuel THOMSON have living with them, a six-year old (bc 1835) child, named "John WELSH". (In 1851, this same child is living with Samuel, and is confirmed as his "grandson".)
Do you have any knowledge of which THOMSON child is the parent of John WELSH ?
John came to New Zealand around 1863, married rather late in life and had six children. His (NZ) death certificate (of 1903) names his parents as "Samuel and Catherine
WELSH (nee McCUBBIN)". ?? ("John Thomson WELSH" is recorded on his gravestone). John's parentage and place of birth, were not noted on his marriage certificate (it wasn't a requirement at that time) - Kirkcudbrightshire though is shown as his birthplace on a son's birth cert.
Do the names "GRIERSON" and "GLEN" have some meaning ?
(Two of John's children bore these names - another three had the THOMSON name appended as a third christian name).
Grateful for any light you can shed.
Thanks.
