Hello Julie,
Thanks for your post. I don't know whether the person you mentioned would be linked...my ancestor George Tippet was born 1854...his first child was born in 1880 or 81.
His own father, another George, might possibly be still having children in the 1870s...but I can't work out who that George is...and whether he is in fact a Tippet at all or perhaps a Bennett.

Yeah it is very confusing as it seems as if George Tippett was a fairly common name back then..I can't figure out who Bessie belonged to either. The only way I figured out what her dad's name was by her marriage certificate.
I have Bennett's in my tree as well but on my husbands side and that is a huge family. Lots to sort through.

Good luck to you  :)

Hi Judith,

Don't know if you have this baptism.

Maud Tibett-Bennet daughter of George and Mary, born 31.12.1891 and baptised 20.10.1892 at Mission Chapel entered at St James the Great Church, Devonport.  Their abode was 36 John Street and his occupation was bootmaker.

I am sure it is the same family and it might give you a clue as to where the children were  baptised.  It would seem that they were non conformist.

Elizabeth

Hi Judith,

I have found a few more baptisms for the children of George & Mary.

Surname down as Tippett-Bennett all baptised at St James, Devonport 1st October 1890 Abode 36 John Street and father's occupation, shoemaker.

Annie Matilda born  22 Sep 1886
John Henry born  1 Dec 1887
Jessie born  28 Dec 1888
William born  5 Aug 1890

Can't find Elsie at the moment but will keep looking.

It does not look as though they are non conformist after all.

Elizabeth

Hi, this is great information!! I am also researching the family. But in a different way. I found a report of the mother..Mary (Howard) Tibbett dying after falling down stairs. Am trying to find some back ground, and got confused with the son born in Malta! I couldn't work out why the George and Mary went there, as he was a boot maker! I guess the went together? Then going by the comments here, did they marry after returning to the UK, after having George? I haven't come across any of the Bennett confusion!
