James Johnstone of Dublin 1799-1855
« on: Friday 22 July 11 22:53 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to find any birth or marriage records for a James Johnstone (correct spelling) who died  in 1855 at the age of 56 and is buried in Mt. Jerome Cemetery (I have this record).  He was of St. Bridget's Parish, living at Castleyard.  He was a messenger (possibly a Crier for the Court of Pleas as I found a James Johnstone in the 1824 Pigot's.   I only have a record for one child so far, Johanna Johnstone born about 1822, age 36)married James Mills in Nov 1847 in St. Bridget's Parish.  She died in 1858 and both she and her father are buried in the same gravesite at Mt. Jerome (probably originally in the churchyard, but all graves were moved to Mt. Jerome's in late 1890s.  James may have been a policeman prior to being a 'messenger' as apparently this was a common progression.

I don't know James' wife's name, date of birth or marriage and I don't have Johanna's date of birth.  As Johanna's husband was from Fermanagh, I wondered if the original home of the Johnstone's was also Fermanagh.    Note:  First son of this union was William, second James; first daughter Henrietta Elizabeth, second daughter Anna, third Amelia.

Thanks for any advice you can give.
~Pat

...Hi,

...

Is this Johnston family connected in some way to the family mentioned in the previous posts ?

St. Bridget's is south City parish, the family mentioned earlier had connections with Blackrock in south county Dublin

Sorry Shane,

My Johnstone's appeared to live in Dublin City itself by the castle.  I don't know where they were from prior to living there so they may have come from Blackrock...unknown at this point, but thanks for taking the time to respond.

I'm trying to track your James Johnstone in directories - but cannot locate that Pigott's entry you mentioned ... which section of the directory is he listed in ?
