WORTHINGTON and RODGERS family, MAYO
« on: Saturday 23 July 11 04:41 BST (UK) »
Hi there, am currently researching my husbands rellies in Ireland. William WORTHINGTON married Frances RODGERS in 1859. He is listed as a widower and she a spinster. His father is said to be William a farmer and her James RODGERS also a farmer.
Any help tracing them further would be greatly appreciated.

I believe william was apart of the 20th Regt. of Foot, which means he might have come from Lancashire.

William and Frances married at CROSSMOLLINA. William WORTHINGTON was over 21 and lived in BALLINA at the time of marriage and Frances was also over 21 and lived in CROSSMOLINA at time of marriage. Their last child is born in 1874. They were both Church of Ireland in faith. Frances RODGERS appears to die in County Mayo in 1885. There does not appear to be an appropriate death for William WORTHINGTON at all so I believe hwe may have left the area.

At that time the 20th Regiment of Foot were the East Devonshires. :-\

You say that you believe that William left the area - did his children remain? Is your husband a descendant?

Yes, he is a desendant through Eleanor Jane WORTHINGTON who married George BYRNES. I'm not sure about the other siblings yet, but George and Eleanor immigrated to VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA.

George and Eleanor are in 1901 and 1911 censuses with their family but no clues there.
Family Search has a marriage for William Worthington 1886.

Was there a child Mary Frances?
There is a Mary Frances married to William Patterson in 1879.

None of this, of course, helps you to trace the families back.

At the moment, I can only think of checking births for the children in civil registrations to check his occupation (after Army) and perhaps that other marriage in 1886.
