Charles GRANT

I would like to find some info re Charles. He was born 1855 Yorkshire to parents George Grant and Mary Jane nee Hobson. According to an article in 27 May 1893 Leeds Mercury he went to Australia abt 1884 and settled in Cairns. An article in 1 Mar 1893 Cairns Post indicates that he drowned 25 Feb 1893. His wife may have been Kate and they had 1 child.
I would like to find out when he arrived Australia,was he travelling alone,and did he marry in Australia when and to whom and anything else that shows up.

Perhaps its best to purchase the death cert. Usually they list how long deceased has been in the state, spouses, children though it does depend on the information that the informant knows.

I have never purchased a cert from Queensland but if you go onto the Australian resources board you will find info there

Hi,

It's a longshot but a Kate Sargeant 26, born about 1859 from Waterford England arrived in Brisbane on the Merkara on 8th April 1885.

The surname Sargint could very easily be written down on a manifest as Sargeant or Sargent

A Kate Mary Sargent was born Jun 1858 Halstead Essex. According to census her parents were James and Ann. There is a marriage for a James Sarjeant and either Ann Schroder or Ann Stainer. Obviously there is a problem with parents names on death cert. Info probably provided by daughter Elizabeth.
