When I started planning the meet it was just as a afternoon out for my family history group, who meet every month - hence the fact it was on Friday afternoon... then it developed into a mini-meet, which I think everyone enjoyed. I'm thinking of arranging a similar 'do' for the FH group next spring - probably a group visit to Wolverhampton Archives - and also a similar picnic day next summer - preferably to somewhere cheap... all suggestions welcome...
If enough people are interested, I can contact Wolves Archives, who will arrange a guided tour behing the scenes at the archives: my group had a tour last year, which was very interesting. I had vague plans of turning this into a full day and hiring one of the meeting rooms to do a bit of tutoring as well, but the room hire would be £60 - £80.
Quell coincidence, as Del Boy would say: I was at school in Finchfield from 1965 - 1967, and one of my close friends lived on Bhylls Lane. In fact I walked down Bhylls Lane a few weeks ago to get to the Kingswinford Railway Walk. And a month ago today I was having lunch in the Plough in Claverley!
