Elusive deaths!
« on: Thursday 21 July 11 12:30 BST (UK) »
JOSHUA GOMERSALL (ch Dewsbury 1762), his wife MARY (m Dewsbury 1789) and one of their offspring (WILLIAM ch Dewsbury 1792) refuse to die!  Has anyone come across them?  Does anyone know the churches in that area between 1796 (when their last child was born) and 1841 Census (they don't appear)?
Have explored every avenue I can think of, as well as checking people with those names who are on NBI 3 and/or Leeds Burial CD.  Any new ideas for searching gratefully received.

There is a death for quite a few Joshua Gomersal/Gomersalls at Woodkirk Church (St Mary's)  which is on the Leeds Road, between Dewsbury and Tingley - but the dates are not right.  There is just one maybe....which doesn't give an age
GOMERSALL  Joshua  buried 16 Sept 1810 Labourer of Westerton. but no Mary or William

Where is the last place you found them?  Where was the younbgest child baptised?  Was it the Parish Church? - does it give an abode?  By the early 1800s there were lots of churches in the area.....they may have become non-conformist....so there will be a lot of burial sites to consider.

There is a burial at Dewsbury Parish Church for a
Mary Gomersall on 4th July 1805

It may be worth looking at the original....

Hi

Dewsbury seems the best one to look in but you could also try Mirfield, Batley, Thornhill, Birstall and Woodkirk.
There weren't that many non-conformist I think  the only one in that period was Dewsbury Daisy Hill Centenary chapel but that wasn't until the late 1820's.
