A Thomas and Margaret Aitken were on the same ship as George Aitken and his wife Janet (and her family, Thomas and Janet Cairns and siblings) when they came to Australia in 1852 aboard the "William and Mary".

Do you have anything to link Thomas and George as brothers?

Regards,

Kerryn

Hi Kerryn, Lin

Looking back at my information on my file it seems like when my computer crashed I lost some of what is listed.  I will however paste here what I had on Thomas and

Kerryn I just emailed you something I found on my file.  Lin if you send me your email I will mail that to you as well.  Sorry I have been so behind on following up on this.

Best wishes

Hi Sharleen & Kerryn

Thank you for your quick replies.  I am only new to this addiction, how do I send you my email address Sharleen, is it safe to put it on this post? Kerryn, the reason I think they could be brothers is that they came out together and they both had daughters called Isabella Borthwick Aitken but I haven't been able to go back further to Robert and Isabella to see how many children they had as I don't have any information on them.  I did join the 14days free on ancestry and that has finished so I thought I would join up shortly to do more research.  My husband is descended from David Cairns Aitken. Thanks again.  Regards, Lin

Hi, Lin and Sharleen,

Here's a teaser from another poster, Pam. It shows possible information about Robert Aitken's birth. Because the birth is in Lanark, and our George is from Midlothian, I'm not sure about it. BUT when I consider that George and Janet named one of their daughters Marion Moffat Aitken (my great-grandmother), I'm inclined to accept it!

What do you think? Hope you're enjoying your new hobby!

Thanks Kerryn, it is worth checking out as they seem to like using family names but their is no Robert in either family.  There is twins in both George and Thomas's family.  Toowong cemetary records are good for tracing this family as a lot stayed around the Brisbane area.  Loving it but it is time consuming.

Hi Kerryn, Sharleen

In the ship log, George, Thomas and Margaret show their parents as James and Isabella Aitken both dead. I assume from this that they are brothers and sister but can't seem to find anything on their parents and on George's death certificate it says his father was Robert but I am now thinking it was James.

Hi, Lin,

It really is a "slowly slowly" situation. It would be good to get Thomas' death cert - I'll get onto that soon.

I'm happy to share my research on Thomas and Janet Cairns family - I have a lot on each child.

Regards,

Kerryn

Thanks Kerryn.  I did join ancestry and I have been going through and attaching birth, marriage and death certificate information to each of George and Janet's children and their children so would love any information that you have to add to that.  Thanks again  :) :)
