Elizabeth and William Gilmour, Sesser, Franklin County, Illinois

Hi all,

I am trying to trace death dates for both Elizabeth and William Gilmour or Gilmore.

The last record I can find for them is Elizabeth living in her son's house at South Walnut Street in Sesser in the 1930 Census.  Her age at the time was 59 and her marital status is Widowed.

That means that William must have died before 1930 - His birth was in 1872.  Elizabeth's birth date was 23/03/1871.

To narrow it down a bit:

In 1930 widow Elizabeth GILMOUR is in Goode Township, Sessor City, Franklin County IL. 

In 1920, widow Elizabeth GILMOUR is in Goode Township, Sessor City, Franklin County IL. 

In 1910, William & Elizabeth GILMORE are in Goode Township, Sessor City, Franklin County IL. 

This indicates William died between 1910 and 1920, probably in Franklin County and probably in Goode Twp.

The pre 1916- Death Index (an on going project) has no William (Wm, Willm, etc) GILMORE/GILMOUR entry in Franklin County. Most records in the DB seem to be Cook County - as the database is ongoing, his record is probably not indexed due to Franklin County records not being there.  Pre 1916, Death records were kept at County Court Level, not State.

The 1916 to 1950 Illinois State Death Index has no entry for Elizabeth (& variation) GILMOUR/GILMORE in Franklin County.  Since  this index is (I believe) complete for the years stated, it  may indicate that Elizabeth died after 1950, or else she died outside of Franklin County.

www.familysearch.org has some probate records for Illinois that cover Franklin Co., but unfortunately they're not indexed, so you would probably have to go through page by page.

On a WWI Draft Registration Card dated 12 Sep. 1918, John Gilmore of Logan, Franklin Co., Illinois, b. 4 Jan. 1898 and citizen of Scotland, refers to his nearest relative as William Gilmore of Logan.  It doesn't specify if that's his father or his brother, but I would be inclined to think that he would probably give the name of a parent over a sibling if the parent was still alive and living in the area.  Since Elizabeth was still alive then, I would tend to think the William mentioned was the father.  It's just a guess, but maybe something to keep in mind in searching further.
