hello marna,

very little can survive the ravages of 140 odd years exposure to the british weather, when i look in the mirror i bear that in mind.

i will be sending some 16 images to you, birth, marriage and death.

they are the type of records that could be put into an album.

there are a couple of others that i will have to photocopy and scan (some information relating to the execution of edward's will is one document) and i will send them on in due course.

you will notice some duplication, that's because the two different providers give different amounts of information.

there are also date gaps which i will try to fill in and then you should have a fairly comprehensive family history base to work on.

all the best for now.

To Marna Ruthmez
I am researching Captain Edward Stamp for a magazine "Island Times". The article is almost finished but I was still looking for the personal side of the "difficult, peppery" captain, hence my stumbling on to your query in Rootschat. Can you confirm that Edward's father was a Thomas Stamp, auctioneer, in Alnwick, Northumberland and that his wife was Maria (Douggle) married on the 7th of July 1835 in Saint Pancras Parish Church, London?
I know that his son Edward accompanied him to Vancouver Island but I haven't been able to find the second son who was supposed to have joined his father and brother to the island colony.
Hope to hear from you shortly. Grand to find someone with knowledge of the family....Are you connected to the Dougalls?
Best regards, david

hello david

it is unlikely that marna will pick up your post as this topic was completed, however, if you check marna's profile you can send her a personal message.

you should reply to this post and then i think you will have the qualifying number of posts to send pm's.

i believe that you are on the right track as far as a connection is concerned as there is a dougall link to stamp.

Thanks for the quick reply. There is also an "Alder family" link as well judging from the 1871 census for Acton, Middlesex head Maria Stamp "Timber Merchant's wife": living with them ... Maggie Alder niece unmarried 19 born in Northumberland.
In the 1841 census there is Thomas Alder aged 6 living with Thomas and Mary Stamp in Alnwick, Northumberland.

I was thinking of the "niece" remark rather than the Northumberland remark actually.
I haven't been able to find a way to send Marna a PM....does the profile have an e-mail address?
Sorry for being so thick-headed.

Hi David

Click on the green scroll under a chatter's avatar to activate the personal message system.

If the scroll is glowing bright green, it means the chatter may be currently online.

Hope this helps.
