Just an update, fyi for those who replied to me re contacting kensal green... my second attempt to contact the General Cemetery Company  through the contact form at www.kensalgreencemetery.com has also failed.  There must be a technical  issue at their end.

regards

hello,
the office is closed until monday 25th so i shall go again.

my first approach was met with "sympathy" by the gatekeeper but i fancy that i may have to "cross the palm".

i can live with that, having sampled the bonhomie of the citizens of ontario.

just one thing, are you certain that there will be a headstone?

all the best for the weekend.

Hi Tony

When you get into the office and the staff look at the ledger, they will be able to tell you if there was ever a headstone erected or not.

Hi Tony,
Thanks so much for your efforts on my behalf so far.  Please know that if you end up out-of-pocket, I will reimburse you...  characteristic of my "ontario bonhomie"!

looking forward to your next,

hi marna,

i have now got the co-ordinates, all that's left is to do my crocodile dundee bit and locate the actual site.

indications are that there is another relative to be found and possibly an
in-law although it may be that it is a double burial site, that is someone got there before the captain & co!

fingers crossed for headstone legibility (and dawn, you're a fount of knowledge).

watch this space.

marna,
bad news, i located the gravesite however there is not a single letter visible, everything completely eroded.

however there may be a silver lining to this cloud.

it is a family grave and phoebe dugall who i believe was related to maria (maiden name?) phoebe was interred in 1871.

mary stamp, a daughter was interred there in 1894.

as a matter of course i took a 'photo of the gravesite and its reference 22679, plot 55 row 4.
who knows maybe a relative might wish to erect a new headstone.

i downloaded various information relating to edward & maria i will e-mail it to you if that is your wish.

again, regrets about the anti-climax.

Hi Tony,
So sorry to hear the bad news that the headstone is completely eroded.  However, I'm very grateful that you were able to locate the gravesite and to confirm that Phoebe (Maria's sister) and Mary (Ann), Edward and Maria's daughter, are interred there.  This solves one mystery for me... I was sure that their daughter died a spinster c 1894, and you've given me confirmation.

Yes, please email the gravesite photo and other info on Edward and Maria to the address I gave you in my previous pm; I am very interested.  Coincidentally, tomorrow my late father's remaining brother is coming to visit... Edward was their 2x great grandfather.  He'll be interested in the news.

Thank you so much for your time and effort on my behalf... if ever you require help on this side of "the pond", please don't hesitate to call on me!  You and Dawn and everyone I've dealt with thru rootschat have certainly exceeded expectation.

best regards,
Marna

Although this isn't the outcome you had hoped for, I am glad we have been able to partially solve your mystery for you.
