Thank you all for your prompt and helpful replies to my post. My attempts on Friday the 15th to send a contact form to the cemetery did not go through, nor did an email I addressed directly. I have now sent another contact form asking about the burial plot numbers... this form appears to have gone through successfully, so I assume there was some kind of technical glitch on Friday! ... I have provided both the burial dates and what I assume are the grave reference numbers (?) (53,075 for Edward; 53,882 for Maria) from London, England, Deaths and Burials 1813-1980 at Ancestry.
Edward Stamp seems to have been an extremely "colourful" character... a Master Mariner who captained the steam transport Emue during the battle of Balaklava, he first visited the Pacific Coast of Canada in 1857 as captain of a ship loading lumber for Australia and subsequently became one of British Columbia's pioneering industrialists. He apparently had returned home to London to seek financing for a new venture when he had a heart attack and died. I have been researching him for several years - a picture of his grave would be the next best thing to a visit someday!
best regards to each of you,
Marna (ruthmez)
