Milly, I have had a look at 1st world war uniforms, It seems they all wore woolen jackets with pockets in them, my Grandfathers was the same , he had buttons on the shoulder, pleats above left pocket, which made it 1915/16 and the buttons ? are above the left pocket slightly below the pleat.  I haven't seen any with buttons on the tunic, there were loads of them for sale buttons that is.

I couldn't get the link seemed to stop working sometime last year.  Googling medal reunited, I found another Free site www.medals-reunited.co.uk.  I don't think it has any connection with the original but, perhaps, worth a try.

Thank you Lizzie  :)  Had a check through, but no mention of the soldier I'm looking for - no wonder I suppose..needle/haystack and all that.

In case anyone can help, Im looking for medals that were awarded to Farquhar MacRae/McRae (Lovat Scouts / 10th Cameron Highlanders / Seaforth Highlanders; and Royal Artillery in WW2)

Was he Pte Farquhar MacRae, 2822953 4th Bn. The Seaforth Highlanders. Died 4 June 1940 aged 29.  Son of Farquahar D MacRae and Flora MacRae of Auchtertyere, Ross and Cromarty?

Hi Lizzie, My Great Uncle Farquhar survived both wars.  He died in Blackpool.

His regiments/numbers were as follows:-

Lovat Scouts # 4154 - 14/15 Star
Cameron Highlanders 10th Bn (Lovat Scouts) #226024 - British War Medal & Victory Medal
Seaforth Highlanders 2nd Bn #30407 and 126931
WW2 - Royal Artillery #2809830 - Awarded Defence Medal & War Medal, Territorial Efficiency Medal

I've tried to pick out the medals from his army records, see above.  He also served between the wars in India and Burma, I don't know if he would have got medals for that.

I think you're saying that you know he medals your uncle had but they've been lost/sold.  I'm sorry I have no other ideas.
