John MOODY b.c1838 named in Matthew Moody's will
« on: Monday 18 July 11 16:47 BST (UK) »
I am searching for the family link to a John MOODY b.c1838 or before, but who was certified to be of at least 21 yrs. of age from Matthew Moody's will of Cullyvenny, Co. L'derry in 1860.
John MOODY of Ballymoney, Co. Antrim, blacksmith/farmer was named as one of the Executors of Matthew's will which was dated Sept. 1860. (see Co. Derry page here where Matthews family is buried at Ballylaggan Reformed Presby. Churchyard)  I am trying to determine if this John MOODY of Ballmoney was perhaps a young son of Matthew and Mary (nee ARCHIBALD) MOODY's of Cullyvenny OR Matthew's nephew, which might indicate that Matthew had a brother named James MOODY who was a weaver in Balnamore, Co. Antrim of whom we know for a fact we link to. (documented genealogy and via Ydna results)
We have ties to a John MOODY of Ballymoney/Balnamore, Co. Antrim b.c1835 (so close enough to be the John Moody b.c1838 who was named in Matthew's will), who married Mary Ann LESLIE and we know that our John's father was a James MOODY, weaver in Balnamore, Co. Antrim.  James MOODY's birth was estimated to be around c1808 so this James could be a brother of Matthew's of Cullyvenny, Co. L'derry who was born around c1795 (from gravestone info in Ballylaggan).
We have a record of a Mary Jane MOODY whose fathers name was John MOODY of Ballymoney, and Mary Jane married William HOGG in the Trinity Presby. Church in Ballymoney in June of 1883.
William's parents were named as Andrew HOGG and Eliza (Elizabeth) CONNOR of whom we cannot find anymore information about either.
However, if this Mary Jane MOODY daug. of John MOODY b.c1835 links back to the Matthew Moody of Cullyvenny then we have another link in our branch of the Moody family which would be a great puzzle piece to fill in for us.
Can anyone here help us?  Thank You very much for anything regarding these folks.

Reformed Presbyterians almost always marry within their religion. Balnamore is in County Antrim and there is a R.P. Church in Ballymoney with burying-ground but Balnamore is not far from Ballylaggan across the Bann in Co. Londonderry.

There is a heastone in Ballylaggan for a John Moody died 1891 aged 75 years but he lived at Church Hill (Ballynameen), near Garvagh.

The marriage is listed in LDS database (www.familysearch.org)- 1 Dec.1855 Belfast Andrew HOGG, age 24, son of John HOGG, to Elizabeth CONNOR, 22, daughter of Edward CONNOR. The marriage certificate will show the exact place of the marriage, residences of bride and groom at time of marriage as well as their occupations, names and occupations of their fathers, names of two witnesses.

John Moody and Mary Ann Leslie had the following children: Martha Moody b 16th Feb 1868, Ellen b 29th Jul 1870 and Thomas b 4th Sept 1873. This looks like the family in 1901 census living at a house 11 in Articlare Lower (Articlave Lower), Co Londonderry.

What is interesting is that John Moody gave his place of birth as Co Londonderry. Mary Ann and the children were all born in Co Antrim. It looks as though James, his father moved from Co Londonderry to Balnamore sometime after his son John was born.

Moody, Patton, Hemphill, Haslett, Hopkins, Simpson, Fleming,Walker. Co Londonderry
Simpson, Moody Co Armagh
Walker Co Tyrone, Co Donegal and Dublin
