Really glad to have you onboard, JM.......we need those electoral rolls.......

You just caught me, Libby....I have an early start tomorrow so was about to head off.

To truly verify what has been found, you do need to get a certificate or two (or transcription). The marriage of William Joseph KENNA and Hannah SAUNDERS would be a good start ....that should verify the names of both their parents, and that will prove we are now on the right track for you.

As to how we do it.....it has taken many years of learning by trial and error.....and knowing what records to access.....and having some records on disk.   :D
There are times though when we have to ask for help ourselves.   :)   :)

NSW 1903 ER Canobolas .... polling place ORANGE

KENNA, Margaret Mary,  Byng St, at her domestic duties

More polling places to look at .... back shortly

JM

JM.....not sure that Margaret Mary is connected. If she is, it may only be by marriage.

I was 'lost' at Hannah Saunders.  Whilst I could see her on bdm.nsw.gov.au I couldn't verify that it was her.  I didn't want to do what I did before and go off on completely the wrong tangent.  How did you verify her?

Same for William Joseph.  I found the same one as you appear to have found but was again, not 110% sure it was a happy family reunion.

Remember I found the deaths of this pair?
The deaths gave the given names of their parents, so then I looked for births with the same given parents' names.

But again.......a certificate is needed to actually prove we are correct.

Added to the above, Libby.....I found records for the family in both Queensland and NSW.....so that helps to verify that we are on the right track.

I'd really like to see them in some electoral rolls for both states, but I don't have access to those at present.

 :D  :D  ;D  ;D

I agree with Dee ... certs will help... transcriptions are much cheaper, quicker etc (sent to you as email pdf attachments are a very good option)

Sydney Directory for 1905  ;D  ;D  ;D

Wm J KENNA was at 60 Belgrave St North Sydney .... I will check that electorate again, as I only looked at Mosman's Bay for that one !

More to come !

EDIT 1  rechecked 1903 ER for North Sydney (went from Milsons Pt up to Gosford !)  Sorry, no sighting for KENNA at any of the usual polling places around Nth Sydney ... will look again tomorrow ... currently looking at hardcopy originals but I do have access to scanned ones, just not on this puter !

I will get onto checking the Country Directories (Orange etc)  back shortly

EDIT 2
1909 Sydney streets ... North Sydney district .... 60 Belgrave St NEUTRAL BAY ... (so I will look at that in 1903 again) was NOT occupied by the KENNA family.  It was on the northern side of the street, and nearest cross street was Young St.  Back shortly re Neutral Bay  (yes I will get to the country directories shortly)

edit 3  NOT ENROLLED in Neutral Bay either

Thanks Dee, hope you sleep well.  I had all sorts of wierd and wonderful dreams last night after six hours on the hunt.

JM, I am surprised to see this side of the family north of the Bridge, they have always been rather 'proud' of their common ancestry.  Ha, ha, ha.... how the eyes would roll!

BEFORE the bridge was built THAT side of the harbour was quite rural ... my forebears moved to Willoughby c1901 ... acres of farming and orchardists ... no running water etc !  They went from Newtown and Pyrmont to Willoughby because land was cheaper and the air was cleaner !

But 1909 Country directory ... cannot see any Kenna listed at all

Will check 1909 Alphabetical for Sydney ! back shortly

EDIT 1  1910 Alpha directory for Sydney ...  ;D there's a doctor in the KENNA tree somewhere !
P R Kenna, ophthalmic surgeon, 193 Liverpool St (Sydney CBD) with pr (private residence) 6 Macleay St (in the posh part of East Sydney/Darlinghurst etc)
BUT none on the north shore !
P J Kenna was at Meredith St Homebush
George Kenna was at 212 Abercrombie St Redfern

I have only a few more directories to look up

Libby, I hope you come back.

I've found that there are death notices for both William Joseph KENNA and Hannah KENNA on the Ryerson Index.
http://www.ryersonindex.org/

Just put Kenna in the search engine then scroll down the results.
If you think the information in these notices might help you, you can request a lookup of these notices by clicking on the link on the Request a Lookup page.

I've also found a marriage for Elsie May KENNA in 1939 in NSW, so you should be able to find that. However, I couldn't see a marriage for Gladys.

I'll be back tomorrow evening, Libby.

I'm hoping that Trove newspapers will come up with a few more clues that bind this all together, but too tired for in depth searching tonight.

Don't stay up too late.....it'll all be here tomorrow etc.......   ;D   ;D
