Rawson, Geoffrey "Earl Beatty, Admiral of the Fleet" by Geoffrey Rawson Jarrolds
which has ‘ the origin of the family name. It has been traced to "Betagh" (biadhtach) Beatagh, Beatty, the original meaning being a "public victualler." The family is said to be of Danish descent, but in the early Anglo-Irish records the Christian names are Norman. They were seated in Moynalty[Co Meath] from an early period, and branches of the family appear to have settled in Mayo, Galway and Clare. Mr James Beattie of 23 Scotch Row d aged 45 in the union infm and is buried in the
City Cemetery Grave section and number M1 836 with members of the magee family
