DINELEY/ BEATTIE Family Belfast
« on: Sunday 17 July 11 13:04 BST (UK) »
Hi ! Any help greatfully recieved.
My Husband's family are the Dineley's of Severn Street and further back ParkGate areas of Belfast.
He is the grandson of Albert Ernest Dineley and Elizabeth Maud nee Beattie.
Any body know of them/ remember them?
We believe that the family traces back to a Josiah Dineley who married a Mary Williams and have possible links with Port Glasgow as their son, Andrew is married in Belfast but recorded as living in Port Glasgow on his marriage in 1873 to a Sarah Crouch nee Shaw.

Thanks in anticipation

Tracy

@kingskerswell,
Am updating after a recent visit to Belfast Records office.  On my husbands tree Andrew Thompson Dineley(snr) married twice:

1. to a Sarah Crouch nee Shaw. On the 1873 certificate for this marriage, grooms father is Isaiah Dineley, a clerk.
2. to a Margaret Jane McClelland nee Moore. On the 1899 marriage certificate, the grrom's father is Josiah Dineley, a book keeper.

This is as far back as we can go at the moment.  Any hlp suggestions greatfully appreciated.
Many thanks

Tracy

Hello

Here are a few pieces on your Dineleys.  The first Ernest was born in July 1908 and died aged three days.  As was the custom the name was reused when the second Ernest was born in February 1916.
To help in your future searches try these sites:
 Join the Records Office: https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk/search/

Births, Marriages and Deaths are available, online, for 100, 75 and 50 years respectively.
It is free to do a basic search but you must buy credits to do so. An Enhanced Search cost one credit (50p) and a Full Search is five credits (£2.50).

Before you spend any money try: https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/

This is free but is not as comprehensive and only does N Ireland up to 1921. It has the same search criteria as above.

Another useful site is for the 1901 and 1911 Census. You can access this at: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

Hope this helps

All the best

You have done well with such help here and Neil elsewhere. I have tried to put together what you may already know but as it is not straightforward here goes as a first draft in two parts
1. JOSIAH DINELEY {the 1st}b 1821/23 d 1867  bur  Belfast  m MARY WILLIAMS appears to be a RootsIreland marriage checkit out carefully any other Dineley in this record check Marys death why did he move to Belfast and whereabouts
Notes Neil above viz” IGI reference (Abt 1816) to the Josiah Dineley/Mary Williams marriage in 1840 in Clogher, Ulster Province; but since this is not referenced I wouldn't rely on it.” Clogher apparently extends over parts of Tyrone and Monaghan
residences  this has to be him
in 1852 from http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk/1852streetsmtoz.htm
McMaster's Row off  Durham Street
8. Joseph Dinley, clerk  McMasters Row off  Durham Street.  5 little streets off Durham St drawn but not named see http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jeanmccarthy36/1861_map_of_belfast.htm
in 1860 Josiah Dineley St. George's Ward Townparks [5] Raglan Street Shankill house and yard valued at £ 3 fifteen shillings  pa  see see http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
but is this him or son1862  Josiah Dineley   Derryaghy Derryaghy Antrim  map ref 46AB Ab has house and small garden valued at £ 3 ten shillings  pa [ the top 5% locallly]  area off A1 nr junction just nw corner of Aberdelghy Golf Course has a David Duncan living nearby
listed on valuation continuation books see  https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/proni
Current PRONI Reference: VAL/12/B/8/2A (1862 - 1865) hes listed
Current PRONI Reference: VAL/12/B/8/2B (1866 - 1879) hes listed
Current PRONI Reference: VAL/12/B/8/2C (1879 - 1889) not found
so if he died this could have been one of his houses he left the other to his son or?

Hello

Thanks for the info.  Josiah was living in Raglan Street, Belfast in 1860 and in 1862 he was living in Derriaghy.  I think he is buried in the Shankill Cemetery, Belfast but need to check.

All the best
