Aaron Baker 1793 - 1874

Can any one give me any information on who my x3 GGF Aaron Bakers parents were, or his time spent in Hull Yorkshire? He was born in Lincoln in 1793 [we think] no record there of a baptism. Parents could have come to Hull for work/visit and after his birth in Hull returned to Lincolnshire. Aaron Baker married Mary Benton in Claypole Linc's in 1817 had one son William in 1818 in Claypole mill. After which they came to Hull where the rest of the children were born. Aaron Baker was a corn dealer by trade. I have details of his second marriage to a Hannah Spencer in 1842 but the wedding certificate does not list fathers name. He died in Hull 1874.
"I think" his parents could be Aaron Baker 1757-1836 & Sussana Rose 1767 - 1805!! of St Botolphs Linc's but can not link him with this family or the other children they had.
Any piece of information that would help me move forward would be welcomed.

Is it possible that Aaron Baker, the one born in 1793, had another marriage between Mary and Hannah?  the IGI has a marriage between an Aaron Baker and Jane Gilson at Holy Trinity Church in Hull on 12/12/1821. Each census between 1841 and 1871 show only one Aaron Baker listed in Hull.  Do you have the census info?  The 1841 census lists one of his daughters as Sussana, born in Hull in 1826.  Perhaps he named his 1st born daughter after his mother?

Dave. I have checked out the marriage Aaron Baker and Jane Gilson, it's a different Aaron "military man I think" not corn dealer, signatures differ also. Aaron was also still married to Mary in 1821 and they went on to have more children after this date. I have all the census lists etc. Thanks for your help I will keep searching.

Chariot Street, Hull, still there, is sited between Carr Lane and Paragon Street, alongside Hull Maritime Museum. Two old buildings still standing, one Cheese pub, the other no idea and the 3rd is a modern 70/80's building.

There is NO listing for Aaron Baker for any kind of Trade in either directory.

At time of Marriage to Mary BONTON it lists the Grooms Parish as Newark, Nottinghamshire

On the IGI Batch with their Marriage 1817 are 2 other Baker Marriages that might be worth following up to see their POB as they may be Siblings of Aaron;
ANN Baker to William BOWER 1829
RICHARD Baker to Ann DALBY 1830
The Batch covers 1808-1844 and they are the only Baker Marriages on there.

Thanks Trish, Yes they were married in Claypole. The family I am trying to link Aaron with did not have any children named Ann or Richard, but I will try to see who the parents of the two marriages you mentioned were. Thanks again for your help.

Bendywendy is right. Chariot Street, or what's left of it, is still there linking Paragon Street and Carr Lane. But it's at the western end of the City Hall, not the Maritime Museum.  It's only a few yards long now.  Before WW2 it continued North West under what is now Queens House.  The Hull Cheese used to called the Paragon Inn and was certainly there (or its predessor was) when Aaron was in the area

I've had a quick look at the Hull History Centre catalogue http://lib3.adir.hull.ac.uk/dserve/search.htm and searched for Chariot Street.  This turned up a few hits, mainly the deeds and similar things, nothing for No.19.  There are some photographs dated 1941 and 1942 so I guess they are of the damage during the blitz.

I also searched on Aaron Baker. That turned up something interesting.  In document ref C TCC/6/3, Admissions to Hull Charterhouse - Aarons name is listed followed by "(letter of thanks)".  As you know Aaron and Hannah were listed in the 1871 census as living at the Charterhouse so I wonder if that is a letter written by Aaron at the time they moved there.  Intriguing isn't it!  Depending on the time you've got when you visit Hull it might be worth popping into the History Centre and having a look at that document and perhaps some of the others.  If you contact them in advance (24 hours) they can have the documents ready for you.
