James Rourke
« on: Friday 15 July 11 13:18 BST (UK) »
Hi I am looking for the parent of a James Rourke born around 1865 in Kildare. I think his parents are a Patrick Rourke and Anne Gilligan buy cannot find him anywhere. He married a Mary Colgan in Celbridge in 1894.

What was his address on his marriage cert ?

His birth is very close to the start of civil registration in 1864...

Have you checked the BMD Index on FamilySearch ?

Hi Shane,

We always believed he was from the Sallins area. Not finding his birth on the BMD index but other children from the same parents which may or may not be sisters.

Thanks for your information on the registration dates.

Regards

did his marriage cert not give his current place of residence, along with his father's name ?

might be better to confirm those details.... especially father's name, but his occupation and the groom's current residence can also be useful clues. With a common name like that you could easily end up following the wrong family if you are not careful..

There are at least two possible birth matches for the name in Co. Kildare  :

  Name: James Rourke
  Registration district: Naas
  Event type: Birth
  Year: 1864
  Volume : 2 / Page : 741

  Name: James Rorke
  registration district: Naas
  Event type: Birth
  Year: 1867
  Volume: 12 / Page: 848

there's a birth for a James Rourke to the possible parents you named on the extracted records on FamilySearch ... but I would still recommend verifying the father's name and occupation using the marriage cert to be certain.

  Name: James Rourke
  Date: 13 Feb 1864
Registration District : Naas & Carragh, Co. Kildare
Parents : Patrick Rourke & Anne Gilligan

where did the details you have of his parents come from ?
