I am trying to find out as much as I can about  my Grand Uncle Eugene Mehegan,who was born in 1881 in Cork City,Ireland.Eugene joined the Royal Munster Fusiliers in c.1900.He was attached to the 5th Battalion.I know that he died in 1937.I am particlarly interested in his time in the Fusiliers;where was he stationed?,etc.Thank you.

This could be a mistranscription of his Medal Card for WW1...Ill have a look on Ancestry see if its clearer


If dad was charles mum mary and he was a postman living at 41 Lough Rd Cork...You are in luck his service record is on ancestry...6445 he was a POW in WW1

Yes,he was a postman according to the 1911 census in Ireland.He did live at 41 Lough Road.And his parents names were Charles and Mary Anne.Thanks for your help.If you find out anymore information on Eugene I would be very grateful. I am also going to write to the Royal Munster Fusilier Association to see what information they can give.Many thanks for your help.Declan.

It might also be worth touching base with the Cork Great War Project who have a page on Facebook, they seem to have a lot of info on the Munster's - ken

I am glad I saw this, I had believed this Eugene Mehegan to be my uncle.  My Eugene Mehegan lived in Queenstown and his parents were Eugene and Ellen Mehegan.

Yes,early in my research I nearly got mixed up with another Eugene.No,this Eugene's parents were Charles and Mary Ann (nee Courtney).
