Warwick Baptism Look Up
« on: Thursday 14 July 11 11:00 BST (UK) »
Hi
Would anybody be able to check baptisms for me. I have parents William Freestone and Elizabeth (possible surname Churley). They had the following childen in Warwick
Mark Freestone 1822
Sarah Freestone 1824
Elizabeth Freestone 1826

On the IGI i found a John Freestone baptised 1822 St Mary Warwick parents William and Elizabeth. Could this child be Mark? Or did he die.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

According to the NBI 3rd. Ed. there are no Freestone deaths recorded in Warwick. The NBI covers this period for St.Mary's & St. Nicholas.

Looking at the name Freestone shows just a couple of dozen deaths over a 200 year + period for the whole of Warks. with most of those being in B'ham in the 1700's.So Freestone isn't a local name so to have 2 called William & Elizabeth having children in the same town & at the same time looks extremely unlikely.

Thanks Jim. Maybe this child John is "Mark". I have the family on 1841 census in Sawston Cambridge. Mother Elizabeth, children Mark,Sarah, Elizabeth, James, Eliza and William. No John. The father William died in 1837 in Sawston Cambs.
The family seemed to have moved from Warwick by 1826 when their son James was born and baptised in Beddington Surrey. The family had a settlement removal order in 1832 removing them from Wallington Surrey back to Sawston Cambs.
I have found a possible marriage in Oxford for William and Elizabeth in 1820 and have e-mailed Oxford records office.
I am trying to track down where William b1791 came from. As he was returned to Sawston from Surrey with his family i thought he originated there but no joy as yet.

IGI doesn't cover Sawston to any degree so the Cambs. RO is probably your best bet.
There is another Freestone family there in 1841,John b.c.1806.
you may already have these
Sawston burials:
1822-Mary/15
1833-Charlotte/26
1833-Mary/62
1834-Elizabeth/27
1834-Rachel/3m
1835-Sarah/28
1837-William/46

I take it you have this:
Quote
Removal order for William Freeston, Elizabeth his wife and six children from the Hamlet of Wallington, Surrey to Sawston. Attached delay of removal owing to wife's sickness and renewal order for removal 24 March 1832 also copy of same. (2 items) 3 March 1832
The original will probably tell you more, but it would seem he was either born there or spent much of his early life there.
Have you got any details from any of the children's births as this will tell you what his occupation was.

Yes i have the settlement removal order dated march 1832 and i have a letter that william wrote to the overseer of the poor of Sawston asking for money. This letter  was written from Wallington Surrey shortly before they were removed.
I have his childrens wedding certificates and William was a leather dresser. He died in Sawston in 1837 age 46y giving him a birth year around 1791. He wasn't born in Sawston as i have the parish registers on disc. I also have Whittlesford, Pampisford, Babraham and Stapleford.
I paid Cambridge rcords office for an hours research and they found references to the family having poor relief in 1833 and 1834 and 1842 when Elizabethas a widow recieved parish relief. They found a baptism for William Freestone 1798 in Stapleford Cambs but that has been proven to be a different man. He is connected to the John you found.
I have found a marriage in Banbury Oxford in 1822 for a William Freestone and Elizabeth Churley and somebodyhas kindly offered to check the registers on Saturday for me.
This sounds promising as Williams son born 1832 was William Churely Freestone and he himself had a grandson with the middle name of Churely.
After the marriage (if corrct) they made there way to Warwick then Surrey before being sent bck to Sawston.
The fact they were removed to Sawston does suggest this was a "home parish" to which they were chargeable i just can't find the connection.

At this time (1820's/30's) a person didn't have to born in the Parish he was removed to.
It could be his father's Parish or the last Parish he had worked in for over a year.
You seem to have all the bases covered so I'm sure you'll get to the bottom of it.
Good luck & let us know how you get on.
