George Walker - Looking for Walker Family Tree
« on: Tuesday 12 July 11 11:15 BST (UK) »
Kia Ora

I am in search of the Walker Family Tree as my Scottish blood comes from the Walker side. This is the information I have so far

My ancestor George Walker was born roughly around 1817 in Inverness, Scotland. He had a brother called William & a sister called Maggie. Apparently he arrived in NZ around late 1840's to early 1850s I am unaware of who his parents are but hopefully someone will know. The ship that he APPARENTLY arrived on was called the Lord Benedict or Benedick it arrived in the North Island.

He married a Maori Woman.

If anyone can help me with the family tree or knows anything please let me know.

Kind regards

S

This looks like the family who sailed on that ship but all of them were born at Kent in England and as you can see George was born in 1850.

Ancestry transcription.

1851 Chatham, Kent

William Walker    34
Susan Walker    35
Wm Baller Walker    11
Susannah W Walker    8
Ellet Newman Walker    5
Jane Walter Walker    3
George Butter Walker    9 MO
Sarahann Chapman    14

Then the Walker family listed as sailing on The Lord William Bentink isn't your family as that George Walker was born in 1850.

The first thing to do is find George Walker's death certificate to see if it gives his parents' names.

Graham.

Hi my name is matthew walker judgeing by your information we might have something in common: In my family tree
George(Hori) Walker (Waaka) my ggfather had 3 wives
wife 1: Panatita Te Awanui
children 4 : Heni, Pare, Rihi & Hurua (my grandfather)
wife 2: Pare Tuhonua

George Walker changed his name to Hori Waaka, My grandfather Huru changed his name from waaka back to walker
From stories I've been told  George walker came over with 3 brothers and a sister: Johnny, Edward, Alfred & Margret(Maggie) the came by them selves no parents: George Walker (Hori Waaka) married in the Waikato and through this marriage we are linked to Maori royalty (Kingitanga) still working thru the land claimants this is as far as I got
