Middlesex Militia 1780's

Not sure if this is the right board, but I'm trying to find out about the Middlesex Militia (1781) - would all serving privates have come from Middlesex? I have a marriage record in Liverpool that says the groom was a private in the MM. Why would they be based in Lancashire?

I have had some help via the Lancashire Board and was was given a great link to the Westminster Archives site, but am looking for some general background before I start looking for, what I think, will be a needle in a Haystack!

When they were embodied (ie called out) they tended to deploy the Militia away from its home county. The march there was part of the training, and they also wished to remove the temption to slip home to see the family.

You need to check Middlesex and Liverpool newspapers, as well as Liverpool church records, to see if other Middlesex Militia were in Liverpool at the time. The war with the US and France was taking place so the Militia were used to guard the coast to allow regular troops to serve overseas.

Thank you - there are several other entries in the church records for other members of the Middlesex Militia around the same period.

Did you make any headway with finding out about the Middlesex Militia in Liverpool?
I think I have a marriage to a militia man from around the same time (1782) in my ancestry.

Nothing to report yet.....not had a great deal of time  hopefully the winter evenings will allow more time for research!  I'll post again if I discover anything....
