Martley Baptism registers 1771
« on: Monday 11 July 11 17:54 BST (UK) »
Hi,

My 4xG Grandfather, Thomas Lench was, according to the 1851 census, born in Martley, Worcs, around 1771.  He also died there in 1855.

I have been unable to find his birth - and therefore his parents, on any of the various sites such as Family Search etc  Does anyone have access to Martley's baptism registers - and if so we would be VERY grateful if Thomas could be looked up.

Many thanks  ;D

Hi, I checked baptism records for Martley from 1764 to 1775 and there were no baptisms with the surname Lench.

Hi,

Thank you so much for looking, it's really kind of you.  A shame you didn't find him though - I wonder where he is hiding!

Hi Phil,

Thanks very much for replying and for the offer.  I am hoping to visit Worcestershire History Centre on Friday and might just find something out there!  I'll report back to this thread. ;D

Hi There

I looked at a CD they have at Worcester History Centre for Martley parish registers on Tuesday & the only Thomas Lench I could find (when I looked at the alaphbetical index of BAPs) was s/o Richard BAP 20 OCT 1803 but then I searchd the same CD by date & this entry turned up
19 JAN 1772 Thomas (there is no mention of his parents on the CD).

I was going to have a look at the film on my next visit on Tuesday 16th as well as the films for 9 of the 10 contiguous parishes to see if he was dunked in the pond in a neighbouring parish

All the very best

;D  Thank you so much!  That could be our Thomas!  It's really exciting, just a shame no parents are mentioned.  I'm not going to be able to get to Worcester tomorrow so am extra especially grateful to you for looking him up!

If you ever need any information from Croydon LHC (I live round the corner) or WSRO (Chichester - I go there lots) just let me know.  8)
