I have the birth certificate of Jane's son William b 1848 which gives her name as Shell. On the 1841 cesus she is given as living and working at the at the Cross Gate for John Moffat.

Thank you so much for finding this marriage. I had not heard of  irregular marriages but I did know that people from the Northumberland borders often married in Scotland. Is any sort of Marriage certificate avalible?
