Cannon of Waddesdon
« on: Sunday 10 July 11 16:30 BST (UK) »
Hi All,
I am looking for the marriage or birth certificate of a Richard Cannon or Canon, the father of Samuell born 1635 in Waddesdon. I can't find any Cannon's in Waddesdon before the birth of Samuell, but I can't find a matching Richard/Mary marriage anywhere either! The closest I have managed is a Richard Canon marriage to a Susanna 23 Feb 1634 in Great Munden,Hertford,England. The date matches roughly but not the name of the spouse and the location is quite distant. Can anyone do any better than me? A Richard Canon marriage to Mary in Bucks around 1635 would be excellent! Thank you!

I haven't found what you are looking for, but I have found an older brother baptised 23/12/1632 in Waddesdon to Richard and Mary called Richard. The marriage therefore would probably be around 1631 in this case.
regards.

There is another marriage in Hartford, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

There are earlier Cannons (CANNAN, CANAN, CANON) in Long Crendon, but the nearest Richard was buried in 1566.

The Bucks County Council wills list website shows CANNONs (etc) before 1650 in
Iver
Colnbrook
Stewkley
Ickford
Shabbington
Grendon Underwood

Some of those are pretty close

The marriage record of your Richard & Mary may not have survived. Unless you can find other evidence, I'd not risk making a connection to a physically distant marriage.
Irving, Shaw, Brown, Saunders, Surman, Witney, Washington, Eeles - oh, so many!

The earliest Cannon I have in Waddesdon is Elizabeth bn 1661 daughter of Thomas & Catherine.  The Cannon family moved freely between Waddesdon and Grendon Underwood and are not considered to be related to those in Long Crendon.

I think Berks RO hav registers back to the mid 1500's which would be worth a look up also Grendon Underwood and Quainton and other surrounding villages.
