R.E. Frizelle
« on: Saturday 09 July 11 14:36 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm trying to find information about R. E. Frizelle (1867-1953), a composer of hymn tunes.  Two of his tunes were named 'Belfast' and 'Bangor' so I'm assuming a Northern Ireland connection but have no other information.  I'd be grateful if anyway has any suggestions.

Many thanks

Any idea of his first name(s) or religion?

There's a Robinson Frizell in Co. Down here in 1911-

Also a Robert Ernest Frizelle in Co. Down slightly younger than your date of birth-

Here is Robert Ernest in 1901-

In 1910 here's listed in this directory-

Wow!  Thankyou very much.  He was associated with so-called 'Plymouth Brethren' so I'm sure Robert Ernest is the one.  At least I have something to go on now and I can firm up on other details.

Thanks again - Nick

Glad to know I was on the right track. Have split these posts from the Wexford thread and moved to Co. Down to see if anyone else can help with more information.

Both Robert and Robinson Frizzelle were Brethern so they might be related although it's too soon to tell.

Hi,
According to the www.familysearch.org site Robert Ernest Frizelle was born on 9 Mar 1872 in Downpatrick, Co. Down to William Frizelle and Annie Nealis. He may have been married twice, first to a lady called Grace and then to Meta Matthew on 14 Sept 1910 in Belfast Registrar's office, Shankill, Belfast. Unfortunately I cannot find the first marriage.

According to the www.familysearch.org site Robert Ernest Frizelle was born on 9 Mar 1872 in Downpatrick, Co. Down to William Frizelle and Annie Nealis.
If those are the correct parents there was likely a big family- according to LDS site-
William Frizell, son of James, married 27 Apr.1850 Templemore, Co.Derry to Anne Neelis, daughter of Thomas.
1. James born 13 Feb.1864 Strabane, Co.Tyrone district (page 300 in civil register)
2. Charles born 31 Jan.1867 Londonderry City (page 202 in civil register)

I'm a bit concerned about William Frizell and Anne Neelis being the parents of Robert Earnet Frizell.

Found a reference to a marriage 1900 Co.Antrim (could be Belfast) for a William Frizell, son of Robert to ? . However, I can't find any match in other indexes.

Hi,
11 Apr 1900 William George Frizell to Martha Wright McClelland Jamieson in Donegal Square East Methodist Church, Belfast. Unsure of your reasoning!!

... and William John Frizell married Apr./June 1900 Belfast registration district volume 1 page 300 according to civil registration index.

However, the free search for this website gives a William Frizell, son of Robert, married 1900 Co.Antrim-

The record you found may be correct but a fairly uncommon name there seem to be quite a few William Frizelle's.

Interestingly, civil registration index shows a birth for Robert Eearnest Frizell 1872 Co. Down
