hi there
could some please look up the linthorpe cemetey to see if cornelius brown is in there. he was born in1847 and my g/father was born there in1882 but there is no sign of him on the 1891 census and his wife has remarried

Have you looked for a death date for him first? Couldn't see him in Middlesbrough indexes, have you tried the GRO death indexes?

linthorpe  30 spencer street by my g/fathers birth cert this is the last know place for him [cornelius that is] by 1991 his wife had remarried and lived in salford with my g/father and her new hubby. it was just by chance i found this post and thought id ask just to see if hes there. never mind if hes not one day ill find him

Just a thought as there are no obvious Cornelius Brown deaths anywhere in that decade, have you got a findmypast sub Barbara?  There are quite a few Brown divorces in that time frame but I can't see the details as I don't have a sub.
