Railway employee in Burma about 1900 - 1935
« on: Saturday 09 July 11 03:55 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

My Father in law was born in Rangoon Burma in 1925.  His father was a Burma Railway employee though I do not know at what occupation or status.  My Father in law was anglo-burmese but I believe his father was either of english or irish descent.

Where could I find lists of Burma Railway employees and birhs and marriages for Burma between 1900 and 1935.  Sadly my Father in law passed away before I started my research so I have little knowledge of his life in Burma or later in India, though I do know he was in the Vetinary service with the British Army 1941 to 1945.

Thanks

John Jones

I have seen European railwaymen on parish records of India and that part of India split off from India and named Pakistan. Burma is included in India and has records available.  Indexes and Transcripts up to 1948. These records are available through the LDS Family History Centres  and film numbers can be found on familysearch.org   The records originate from the India Office/India Office Library.

The best place to start is by putting up a message on Planet Burma's Lost Relatives page http://shwepla.net/Misspers.mv - give the full name and anything else you know such as the town.  You may be pleasantly surprised and find that someone remembers your relations.
