there isn't such a place name in Montgomeryshire. It probably begins Llan, could be Llangadfan.

Is it from a census? If so, could you give the census ref so that we can have a look at it.

Have you looked for him in the Chelsea pensioner records on www.findmypast.co.uk?

There's an Evan Mills baptised in Llanidloes in 1783, but he's still there in 1851 & later. There's a baptism for an Evan Mills in Garthbeibio 9/7/1783 son of Edward & Anne Mills in IGI extracted batch C090571, Garthbeibio is a couple of miles from Llangadfan.

the 1841 census doesn't give places of birth. Just found him on the 1851 with a very wrong age. Census ref is HO107/2172 folio 97 pg 26. By the way, your 1841 ref should start HO as well, not HQ. Place name looks like Llangavan, so more than likely Llangadfan as suggested.

hi,

At his burial 23rd May 1852 at St Oswalds Chester his age is given as 69 so would make 1783 - this ties with an Evan Mills who served in the 2nd Batt. 3rd Reg of Foot who was 22 when he enlisted in 1805 - he was also at the Battle of Waterloo Lt Col Keates Co. The National Archives may have Muster Rolls for him (they will do paid research if you cannot get to them).
