Taylor in London pre 1815R
« on: Friday 08 July 11 02:57 BST (UK) »
l am researching convict ancestors in London.  Edward Taylor b. C1780 and his wife Ann Townsend C1783.  I have transcripts of both trials and all the recorded details of their imprisonment in London prior to their transportation.  Edward was a Shoemaker and Ann a bootcloser in Bermondsey Rd. Their eldest child baptised at St Mary Magdalene Bermondsey but no record of his parents marriage there.
There is 1 Ann Townsend on the IGI but no real proof that this is the Ann in question.  A good friend trolled through all the Taylor marriages for Surrey in the correct time frame, to no avail.
Where to next - advise please.
Paddy.

Not the marriage you were after but it might be Ann's baptism....

Ann daughter of John and Ann TOWNSEND, Worsted Maker Bermondsey Road . Born April 26th 1785. Baptised April 29th 1785.

Karenlee,
Many many thanks for 3 exciting messages.  Without any birth or marriage records for this couple, I have been obliged to calculate their birth years from the 1828 Australian census and the London trials of each of them.
I doubt that Mary,Harriot and Edward are their children since the target couple had their son Edward baptised in 1814, at St Mary Magdalene.  The two St John Hackney references look as if they are the same family - but not the target one.
All very interesting, particularly Ann Townsend's baptism at St Mary Magdalene Bermondsey.
Did the Hackney Edward have an occupation recorded?
Paddy.

Hi

No occupations given unfortunately..... I took down all the important stuff for you.  This couple may not have always been in the Bermondsey area remember... so don't discount anything just yet... ;D
