Completed: St Patrick's RC Felling - McLernan 1874

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help.  I understand records for St Pats are in the Tyne & Wear archive.  I'm looking for the baptism details of John McLernan (McLaren / McLarnon) born 8 April 1874 in Heworth, Felling.  His parents were Hugh McLernan & Elizabeth McVeigh (McVey).  I think he would have been baptised at St Patrick's.

Also burial details of Elizabeth - died 5 July 1874.  Any info would really help me tackle the brick wall I've reached on these families.

I don't know if your ancestors married at Felling, but I looked at the register several years ago (on film , as you say at the Tyne & Wear Archive) and counties and even towns of origin in Ireland were recorded for many of them.  The latest entry I noted with geographical detail was 1869.

Hi Michael,

many thanks for responding with information.  They married in Ireland & I've traced the church record - Lurgan, Co. Armagh tho' actually from nearby in Co. Antrim. Since I posted this query I visited the archive centre to get the baptism details which I now have. This family then go back to Ireland then to Scotland then to Gateshead/Newcastle area again before going back to Scotland!   As ever finding out a bit of info has opened up a new line of enquiry.

I think some of the others in the extended family must have been in the Newcastle area before they moved there, so I'll have a look round & see if I can spot anything.  It may help me trace further back than I am at the moment.
