Michael Joseph Barry

I'm trying to find information about my great grandfather Michael Joseph Barry born in 1827 in Tipperary and migrated to Australia where he married Ellen Hughes from Armagh.  Haven't managed to find out anything about his family or about the boat he came to Australia on.  Can anyone help?

Full civil registration started in 1864 - so there are no birth certs before that date. For earlier details you will need to research parish records, and to do this you first need to establish the denomination of your Barry family and where they lived at the time - i.e. town, townland or parish. You would also need to know some family details such as a parent or sibling to confirm any connections.

Thanks for the suggestions Shane - I'm new to this game so that's very helpful.

Hi  when searching Parish records for County Tipperary,
the County is divided into 3 diocese, north Tipp, mid and south, to contact north Tipp - northtipperarygenealogy[at][/blue]eircom.net
South Tipp parishes dealt with in Waterford - mnoc[at][/blue]iol.ie and
mid Tipp and parts of limerick - www.tfhr.org
there is a cost for research but you could check out their websites, depending on the parish some records won't go as far back as 1827 others go back to 1790
(Replace [at] with @)

hope this helps you
