Quinn, Killyleagh
« on: Friday 01 July 11 12:09 BST (UK) »
Hi

I have only started researching my family tree.

I'm looking for anyone who knowsanything about the Quinn family in Shrigley or Killyleagh. Myg grandfather was Thomas Quinn who D1970 in Killyleagh and was married to Mary nee Hillock from belfast.

I have searched the 1901 and 1911 census and have found entries for the family in Shrigley but no father listed on either.  I'm not even sure that i have the right Quinns as relatives have told me that Thomas only had 1 sister but i have found a lot more.

Also does the RC church in killyleagh hold all these records for baptism/marriage and death

any help would be grateful

Not sure if Annie Martin Quinn is connected but just in case- The Will of Annie Martin Quinn (Wife of Robert Erskine Quinn) late of Shrigley near Killyleagh County Down deceased who died 27 April 1876 at Rostrevor County Down was proved at Belfast by the oath of Robert Erskine Quinn of The Agency (Newry) County Armagh Esquire the sole Executor. (Limited Grant of Probate of a Married Woman's Will.) See Will on www.proni.gov.uk

That would explain why her Will mentioned 'child children' without any name(s) specified. It's not likely to be same family as the Quinns in first post but I mentioned it because of the Shrighley connection.

I am researching Quinns from Downpatrick so have saved a lot of information

27 Jun 1913, Killyleagh Roman Catholic Church, Killyleagh Parish, Downpatrick registration district- Thomas QUINN to Mary Catherine HILLOCK

On the Ulster Historical Foundation marriages, the father of Thomas seems to be John and Catherines Father is Patrick. Hillocks can be found 17 in Marchioness Street (Falls, Antrim) on the 1901 census

Another marriage that may be of use is
2 Oct 1881 Killyleagh Roman Catholic Church- John QUINN to Catherine DORIAN

Killyleagh was once in the parish of Kilmore and the records are in Crossgar RC Church.
If you need more help I can look through my information for you

Thanks eileen these facts are definitely very helpful.  I had found the Hillocks and have been able to trace them back to scotland in 1861.  Thomas Quinn was proving to be a bit more tricky to find.  You didnt by any chance see or find out if he had any siblings?

What Quinns are you looking for in DPK?  Are they related in any way to my quinns?

Again thanks for the info,

Donna

Glad I can be of help. Most of my Quinn's went to America. In the process of looking for them I gathered up a bit. In the inhabitants of Killyleagh 1891/99 ( a local  census) I found this info.

25   Shrigley Village   John Quinn   head   Scutcher
   Shrigley Village   Kate Quinn   wife
25   Shrigley Village   James Quinn   son
Shrigley Village   William J Quinn   son
25   Shrigley Village   Susan Quinn   daughter
   Shrigley Village   Patrick Quinn   son

Cross reference those names with 1901 census and I think the family are still in Shrigley. They would have worked in the Mills.

Once you establish the family I will see if there are any graves that will tally .

Eileen
