My mums BM worked and lived at Mayfield House Ancoats Manchester, i'm trying to find out if anywhere holds any records of previous residents and employees of Mayfield House.
If anyone can help me it would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

Mandy

I think your BM is who we are looking for, are her birth initials CDB?

Does anyone have any photos of the building - inside or out - or know where I could find them?

I lived at Mayfield House when I was about 5 or 6. That would be about 1948. I attended Every street school. I too remember the Porridge! The cooks name was Michael. The staff were kind to children. We lived there whilst waiting for a council house in Wythenshawe. My father couldn't stay and had to stay with his Mum. I remember my older brother had to be in by 10pm otherwise he would be locked out until the next morning! Many years later it became a homeless shelter.

Yes, I've got a few on my PC. It was  a grim looking place but, of course, I wouldn't really be aware of that as a child.
