BAILEY family, Dawley.

I'm looking for any information regarding the Bailey family of Dawley, especially Thomas Bailey, Old Park, Dawley, (born about 1802), his son Richard, and siblings/wifes of both. Basically, anything connected to these two persons.

I've found 2 possible pieces of info re the family in censuses, there is a discrepancy with dates/ages, though this can happen:

1851 Thomas Bailey 51 (born 1801), living at Dawley with son Richard 14 - also daughter Sarah Ann and son-in-law living there.

1871 Thomas 64 (this Thomas was born about 1807 here), though living at Old Park, Dawley with son Richard 34 and his wife Jemima and their offspring:
Enoch, Mark and Margaret
2 other children William and Abraham listed as Thomas' offspring, but that could be a misprint.

1861 nothing concrete in the censuses

Other info:

There is a Richard Bailey b. 1837 (Apr) parents Thomas Bailey and Margaret.
Richard Married Jemima Guy in 1859 in Wellington, Shropshire.

I found 2 marriages for Thomas Bailey to a Margaret:
1826 Madeley (this is not unusual for Ironbridge, Dawley etc as Madeley is the main Parish and dreadful to research too) to Margaret Smith April 1826 and Upton Magna to Margaret Mathers May 1830.

Thanks for the offer. I probably will have more questions. the name Bailey in this area seems to be a synonym for minefield!

From what I have found out, this information is spot on. My research so far tells me that Thomas did indeed marry a Margaret Smith, and that richards first wife was a Jemima Guy.

The big problem that I have at present is finding siblings to these two Baileys.

Have found some siblings of Richard, son of Thomas Bailey and Margaret:
Jane b Jan 1830
Sarah Ann b May 1831. M. 1851 Wellington to Beriah Baugh
Jane Helen b Jan 1834
Richard b Apr 1837

Margaret (Smith or Mather) wife of Thomas b. 1808

I still cannot find any info re the 1841 census, which would be invaluable, to confirm the above and possibly Margaret (mother) was still around. I have found a Margaret Bailey d. 1843 in Madeley Shropshire, Madeley is a generic parish area which probably includes Dawley.

My 3xG Grandmother was a Sophia BAILEY who was born around 1805 in Dawley Magna.  Possibly the daughter of John and Susannah Bailey, she married William Hayward (though I can find no record of this) and had at least 6 children with him.

Is there any link to your Thomas BAILEY?  Could he be Sophia's brother or maybe a cousin?

As regards Richard Bailey, the four siblings that horse000 posted are the only ones that I have found/confirmed so far. However, I would expect that there would be more.

As regards his father, Thomas Bailey b. abt. 1802, I have not found a single sibling so far. Again, I expect that there were some. The time frame would fit for Sophia as being of this generation, so there is the first possibility.

The father of Thomas was a George Bailey, b. abt 1770. This gives a second possibility that Sophia was an offspring of one of his siblings.

Baileys in that area are quite numerous, and its proving to be a minefield finding out who is related to who! Yesterday, I checked through quite a few Dawley/Madeley Baileys, without any success whatsoever. Each one belonged to a different branch of the family!

ref one of the notes above - Dawley & Madeley parishes have always been separate and the registers of both go way back.
