ROBSON in Stokesley
« on: Monday 27 June 11 23:45 BST (UK) »
Looking for one George ROBSON born c1775 who lived most of his life in Hexham NBL.  The 1851 census for Hexham finds him in the Workhouse where his place of birth is described as Stokesley, YKS.  A professional researcher looked at the parish records in Stokesley and reported that there were no ROBSONS recorded there.  Advice please as to where I can go next.

The NBI3 shows 26 burials at Stokesley, St.Peter & St.Paul for ROBSON between 1596-1922, although the name George is
not among them.
George ROBSON was buried at Hexam, St Andrew 26 Dec 1852
aged 77 (there are 619 ROBSON burials at St. Andrew) to
1859.

Many thanks for that Mike!  This refutes the information from my expensive researcher, that there were no records of ROBSON at Stokesley.  I shall clasp this John ROBSON to my ancient bosom and see if I can't do something with the information.
Paddy.

In case it does prove to be useful the marriage was by Banns, John & Elizabeth were "both of this Parish" and the witnesses were Wm. Blakey & Jas. Barthram, the latter is a witness at quite a lot of weddings.

Many thanks for providing more details.  You and Mike have really made my day!   I must now see how I can unearth a family for John and Elizabeth on the off chance that this is my target family.  Marriage in 1770 leaves a decent gap for 2 or 3 children before George's birth in 1775.
Paddy.

Hi Mrs OB, I've checked the Stokesley records for the 1790s but couldn't see the marriage you are looking for.
