First letter is definitely a "C" (compare with Catherine McDonald), not a "G" (it has no tail like the one in "Gunlock m"), nor a "P" (compare the much more elaborate one in Priscilla Fidoe!).

Given that his "a"s tend to be very open, with sometimes a tiny loop at the start (look at the ones in John Buzzard, and Catherine immediately below it), I think the second letter is an "a" and not a "u" or anything else.

The next letter could be an "h" or a "p" (it's exactly like the "p" in Cooper Street!), the next is most likely an "e", and the final one an "l".

This would all add up to "Capel Keeper" -- and unless someone knows what that is, I'd hazard a guess that there's an "h" missing and he was a Chapel Keeper.  :D ;D

Any good?

Cheers!

 ;D ;D

The only thing that comes up for "Capel Keeper" is literally, a goal keeper for Capel  ;D Maybe that's where I get my awesome football skills ( not! )  ;D

Hi Rachey.William was married to Ann,and when she died,he married Eliza Reynolds.Eliza and Williams daughter Alice then married a William Phillips and on and on.
A lot of the family lived in the Covent Garden area of London, and some still do.
So if you are descended from Anne and William, then we are 1/2 somethings and if u are descended from William and Eliza, then we are full oojimaflips
John Buzzard was not at Waterloo, but I am guessing that he was a recruiting sargeant and that is how he would have met Catherine in Oxford.
I live with my partner,Sandra in Dagenham,in essex and will soon be putting my findings on ancestry.co.uk
Please reply,sincerly,Lawrence Phillips

Dont know Catherines surname yet.It was very rare for regular people to marry others, even 4 streets away, let alone between Cowley and London.
Once we have Johns military records, then we should get some clues.Unfortunately, the records for the Guards regiment were mostly destroyed by bombing at the Guards Chapel in Birdcage Walk.Maybe this is where John was the Chapel Keeper?.
So he could have met Catherine, whilst recruiting in Oxfordshire,or as there is no record of a marriage, there is always a possibility that he married her on service.
Regiments were allowed to take 6 wives per company on active service, where they shared the hardships with the men.If their husbands were killed, they were generally remarried within 2 to 3 days(its a possibility for our John and Catherine)

Given Johns age in 1815,its possible that he served in the guards from 1795 and could have been present in the American wars and the Peninsular wars against France.this is where he could have married Catherine...Maybe the Catherie you found married to another man is the correct Cathy after all.I wonder if he was in the same regiment as John and died in battle, and then our gallant GGFx5 married her??

Essex Lad!!.Unfortunately no...Essex old lad yes..
If you look on Facebook under Lawrence Phillips you should see a photo of me driving my famous rich lady guvner to Liz hurleys wedding in the days when I was a house butler/chauffeur.
