Hi Sancti,

I'm back home and suitably refreshed! (For about 3 days!)

There is no headstone for Daniel but according to the records, he is interred in the old churchyard at Cam'nethan, in a plot owned, according to the late Victorian book, by himself. Unusually, he is the sole name in the records, it tends to be couples, sometimes even several siblings.
Anyway, the plot book has the following information (the plot book only begins circa 1876)

In the south lair -
MARGARET MAXWELL, aged 13 months. Interred on 28th February 1887.
THOMAS MAXWELL, aged 6 years. Interred 15th January 1897.
In the centre lair -
DANIEL MAXWELL, aged 63 years. Interred 20th December 1890.
JAMES MAXWELL, aged 8 1/2 years. Interred 5th January 1897.
In the north lair -
MARGARET MAXWELL, aged 83 years. Interred 1st September 1910.

The following information is taken from the gravedigger's day book -

DANIEL MAXWELL, Newmains, aged 4 years.
ROBERT MAXWELL, Newmains, aged 15 months.
Parents - Daniel Maxwell & Margaret Smith.
Interred in the old churchyard, both on 16th March 1866.

MARGARET MAXWELL, Cambusnethan, aged 83 years, widow.
Parents - Alexander Smith & Margaret Finlay.
Interred in the old churchyard, 1st September 1910.

JAMES MAXWELL, labourer, Cambusnethan, aged 56 years, married.
Parents - Daniel Maxwell & Margaret Smith.
Interred in the new cemetery, E2403, 8th October 1913.
Lair owned by William Maxwell, miner. 206, Gardner's Land, Cam'nethan.

STILLBORN FEMALE MAXWELL, 244 Cam'nethan.
Parents - William Maxwell & Jeanie Botham.
interred in E2403 17th November 1916.

finally, this may be a red-herring but I'm including it because of the name. It seems odd that the child's names seem to be out of sync; but he may well have been illegitimate.

DANIEL MILLAR MAXWELL, Glasgow, aged 9 months.
Parents - William Millar & Jane Maxwell.
Interred in the old churchyard, 22nd February 1867.

Anything else you need, just ask.
Paterson, Torrance, Gilchrist - Hamilton Lanarkshire.
McCallum - Oban, McKechnie - Ross of Mull Argyll.
Scrim - Perthshire.
Liddell - Polmont,
Binnie - Muiravonside Stirlingshire.
Curran, McCafferty, Stevenson, McCue - Co Donegal
Gibbons, Weldon - Co Mayo.
Devlin - Co Tyrone.
Leonard - County Donegal & Glasgow.

I think Hamilton Allan & Steel could be one of mine.
Be grateful for a photograph.
Thank you

Hi doolittle72, the stone is an obelisk which is now lying flat. The inscription is as follows -

"Erected to the memory of John Allan who died 1st June 1848 aged 58 years. John his son died 3rd March 1853 aged 10 years. Sarah Hamilton his wife died 14th January 1867 aged 68 years.
The burying place of Alexander Allan and Agnes Steel his wife. Alexander their son died 31st March 1856 aged 3 years. The above Alexander Allan died 25th November 1901 aged 79 years, his wife Agnes Steel died 11th March 1914 aged 92 years. Marion Reid Allan died 24th February 1910".

If this is the right family let me know as this stone forms part of a larger Allan plot.

Hello:  early on in this thread you mentioned that a 1974 transcriptions of the headstones exists at the Scottish Genealogical Society.   Would it be possible to copy the pages if one visited the Society in person?  I don't see reference to the transcription on their online listings, but am hopeful the transcription is still available.

Hi Roger,

No photographs I'm afraid, none of them are buried in the old churchard and that is where I have the most pictures of.
Quite a few of them in the burial records though and there may be headstones but I just don't have the pictures, I will check when I go over to the cemetery next time.

First of all, there are three seperate plots in the "Private" burial ground, this lies behind the old churchyard and to the west of the municipal cemetery.

First plot is Private 367.

CLAUD REID, Wishaw, aged 18 months.
Parents - David Reid & Margaret Lennox. Interred 14th May 1875.

JANE LIVINGSTONE, housekeeper, Wishaw, aged 64 years, unmarried.
Parents - William Livingstone & Janet Allan. Interred 13th July 1880.

DAVID REID, Wishaw, aged 5 months.
Parents - David Reid & Ann Barclay. Interred 17th February 1892.

STILLBORN FEMALE REID, Wishaw.
Mother - Margaret B. Reid. Interred 4th March 1901.

STILLBORN FEMALE REID, Wishaw.
Parents - Charles Reid & Annie King. Interred 15th September 1898.

STILLBORN MALE REID, Wishaw.
Parents - Charles Reid & Annie King. Interred 30th April 1907.

DAVID REID, 72 Berryhill Rows, Wishaw, aged 3 days.
Parents - Robert Reid & Mary Newbury. Interred 22nd July 1916.

Next is plot 512 in the Private.

ELIZABETH REID, housewife, Wishaw, aged 31 years, married.
Parents - Charles Lennox & Elizabeth Murray. Interred 9th May 1876.

MARGARET REID, Wishaw, aged 19 months.
Parents - Archibald Reid & Eilzabeth Lennox. Interred 27th September 1876.

ARCHIBALD REID, coalminer, Overtown, aged 56 years, married.
Parents - Claud Reid & Elizabeth Buchanan. Interred 8th August 1898.

Next is plot 570 in the Private.

ROBERT LENNOX, coalminer, Wishaw, aged 13 years.
Parents - Charles Lennox & Elizabeth Murray. Interred 15th September 1864.

CHARLES LENNOX, coalminer, wishaw, aged 54 years, married.
Parents unknown. Interred 23rd April 1867.

MARGARET REID, housewife, Wishaw, aged 23 years, married.
Parents - Charles Lennox & Elizabeth Murray. Interred 16th January 1875.

ELIZABETH LENNOX, Wishaw, aged 75 years, widow.
Parents - John Murray & Elizabeth Little. Interred 5th January 1891.

JOHN MURRAY LENNOX, miner, Wishaw, aged 48 years, unmarried.
Parents - Charles Lennox & Elizabeth Murray. Interred 2nd July 1896.

CHARLES LENNOX, coalminer, Wishaw, aged 69 years, married.
Parents - Charles Lennox & Elizabeth Murray.  Interred 18th February 1909.

That's all for the walled Private burial ground.
The rest are plots in the municipal cemetery adjacent to the ancient churchyard and the Private.

Plot C550.

JOHN LENNOX, coalminer, Wishaw, aged 30 years, married.
Parents - Charles Lennox & Marion Sommerville. Interred 28th November 1900.

CHARLES LENNOX, Hamilton, aged 5 weeks.
Parents - William Lennox & Margaret Lightbody. Interred 25th December 1900.

CHARLES LENNOX, Ash Cottage Overtown, aged 3 months.
Parents - Andrew Lennox 7 Georgina Yuill. Interred 15th October 1906.

The next two are in other plots in the cemetery -

JANE SNEDDON LENNOX,  Wishaw, aged 3 weeks.

Parents - Charles L. Reid & Annie Mckendrick King. Interred in E2046, 1st August 1914.
Plot owned (at the time) by Charles Lennox Reid, miner, 7 Roberts Street Wishaw.

finally, I found 2 interments in plot 233 Low Public in the municipal cemetery, this may be your family, maybe not!

Parents - Robert Lennox & Isabella Dow. interred 10th July 1867.

CATHERINE McARTHUR LENNOX, Wishaw, aged 2 months.
