« on: Saturday 25 June 11 19:43 BST (UK) »
I am told that my father was in the irish equivalent of the home guard during ww2, does anybody have any information about this service or know where records could be found?

Thank you

That's for information on Home Guard (U.K. which includes Northern Ireland).

gnasher- do you know what county/counties in Ireland your father lived in during World War II?

Hi this link might help,I think you might be referring to the L.D.F,
Local defence force. Republic of Ireland but in those years the
state would have been referred to as eire.          Anne

Thank you all for your replies i will read up on your suggestions eagerly, I had always assumed that my father had gone to England during the war to enlist but i was told recently by a cousin that he did not go to England until 1949-50 and that during the war he was in the Irish version of the home guard, he says he is certain of this because he would leave his rifle in the hall by the front door and my cousin would " borrow" it to shoot rabbits, dad was in Bennettsbridge Kilkenny at the time.

Thanks again

If he was in Kilkenny during the war then Anne has probably found the correct organisation-
