Accommodation near SRO, Ipswich
« on: Friday 24 June 11 08:27 BST (UK) »
Hello. I'm planning a research trip to the Ipswich branch of the Suffolk Record Office in early August. Can anyone recommend moderately priced accommodation in Ipswich within walking distance of the SRO?
Thanks.

A friend living in Cambridgeshire uses the same guest house for every research visit, will PM the details to you.

The Tuddenham Road link given looks to be very nice, but it is nearer to the shopping centre and on the other side of Christchurch Park to the SRO.
There is a link via the TIC website to Christchurch Mansion which you may wish to visit during your stay  :D

The TIC housed in the redundant St Stephen's church is very helpful there is a 'Where to Stay' link (one of the assistants is the prolific David Kindred's sister).

Have heard back from my friend in Cambridgeshire - unfortunately the lovely B+B within easy walking distance is no longer, the owner retired  :-[

I notice that the T.I.C. site does not have a large choice in Ipswich itself.

Along Norwich Road there are a few guest houses/hotels and some of these would be within 10 mins of the SRO.  A look on YELL.COM may help

The SRO is around a 15 minute walk from the town centre and is located off Bramford Road near the junction with Yarmouth Road/Chevalier Street.

Any questions, please ask.

Regards... Andy.

Hi bayram, I have worked in TICs in the county and each year a local booklet is prepared with B+Bs etc.  It is best if Dinosaur contacts the TIC directly as they will have up to date information on what is available.  They should also be able to advise if a B+B just out of the Gatacre Road area is on a bus route to the SRO.

I will be at the Ipswich SRO next week for a meeting and could ask if anyone there has any advice, but that may be too late for Dinosaur?

Thank you, Andy and Pat. I have now booked myself into a guest house on Norwich Road that appears to be about a 10-minute walk to the SRO.
