Escrick, Yorkshire
« on: Thursday 23 June 11 00:54 BST (UK) »
I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if there are any old graveyards in Escrick. The names I'm researching are Douthwaite, Tasker, Wilberfoss and there seems to be links to Escrick. I am going to yorkshire in a couple of weeks would like to fit in a gave hunting day.

there is some detailed info about the church on this site:

http://www.churchcrawler.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/escrick.htm

it seems the site of the church has changed over the years - the medieval church is along the skipton road - the more 'modern' one in the village -check this site for info.

it seems you can obtain a book of memorial inscriptions :

http://www.eyfhs.org.uk/content/shop/UK/MIs.php?fetch1=E&fetch2=I

this is the East Yorks FHS.

If you find you don't have enough time then PM me and I will have a look for you and take photos as well if you wish. I live in Selby and Escrick is not far away down the A19, I travel that way quite a lot!

Way to go Pinetree......    :D Thank you very much. I enjoyed my visit to Escrick and Seaton Ross. I have found a couple of Douthwaite's graves, but they are proving tricky to find. I'm trying to find Robert Douthwaite who died in 1844 and another Robert Douthwaite who died 1841. Both death certs say they died in Seaton Ross but they don't seem to be buried there...
I don't think i have the Douthwaites you mentioned so I really appreciate your help.

Hi, there were Douthwaites living at Kexby Old Hall, Kexby York. Not sure of the dates, but probably 20 century.
