Erl family/Germany

Hello all;  Is there anyone out there researching the Erl family?  They are my husband's family and my brick wall.  The last relative I have any info on is Ignatz Erl from Waldsassen, b. 1.2.1880 and d. 15.1.1949.

Ignatz was a glassmaker who travelled around Germany teaching the apprentices at the glass factories.  He was married twice - one of the wives was called Sabine.

I would love to hear from anyone researching this family or the Bavarian region.

Ancestry has on the "Bayerische Kriegsstammrollen"

Johann Erl, born 3.6.1888 Frankenreuth
Residence Waldsassen, Glasmaker
married to Karolina Lehrer (I'm not quite sure about the name)
Father - dead
Mother Barbara, residence  Waldsassen

Checking the Telefonbook for Waldsassen you'll find 3 people with the name Erl still living there.

Thanks Peonie;  Now I have a town to center on to get some info.  It sounds like this is Ignatz's brother.  My father in law is rusty with the family names so it is making it more difficult to make some headway.

The big mystery is the Peter listed in the phone book - none of my husband's uncles had boys.  That is going to be interesting to look into.

Hi Judy,

searches in Germany are difficult because only direct descendants can apply for certificates.

Found another Erl in Frankenreuth:   http://www.frankenreuth.de/Frankenreuth-HTML/fr_fotoframe_20jh_html/glashuette2.html. The guy sitting on the left  in the front row is Andreas Erl. (you can click on the heads to get all their names) Click on the right/left arrows for nice photos of Frankenreuth.

All residents have to be listed at the  Townhall. So when you leave you have to fill out a form and they are all kept. If you have the date your  f-i-l  left you could try writing to them. Or a letter to the Newspaper.

I cant get the names to come up on the picture.  Is Andreas the fellow leaning on the left or the one sitting behind him.

When you are looking at the picture he is sitting on the left, on the bench, wears light coloured pants and apron and a dark vest under his jacket. (not one of the two on the ground).

We all love to help, especially when we are stuck with our own research. Hope you will have some success with this. Does your husband speak German?

Hi again Peonie:  Just wanted to let you know that we may have a lead on some of the family - just from the name of the town that you found for us!

In answer to your question - yes he does but fluency doesnt come easily - he can read far more of the language which is a great help.

Hello rookie:  Ignaz is my husband's great grandfather.  I have been researching the family for quite a while and have not found much.  I do  know that they were workers in the glass factories and one of the last towns where the family lived was Frankereuth.

What is your relationship to Ignaz?
