Using real names makes identity theft easier - particularly on a genealogy forum where family names & other info are often mentioned

On an open access board you dont know who is likely to be lurking and collating info
Wainwright - Yorkshire
Whitney - Herefordshire
Watson -  Northamptonshire
Trant - Yorkshire
Helps - all
Needham - Derbyshire
Waterhouse - Derbyshire
Northing - all

Rishile - do you mean kia-ora? I hated that stuff when I was a wee one.

Ray - because there wouldn't be enough unique names to go around. I use the same name in most places, makes it easier to find me online ;)

Marmalady - very true, identify theft is rife these days, sadly.
WIMBUSH - Everywhere :: MARLOW/JECOCK/JUSTICE - Northamptonshire/Warwickshire/Oxfordshire :: SCALES/BRIDGES/ENGLISH/SPINK/PETCH/GOOCH/COCKSEDGE - Suffolk :: GARRETT/GIBBS/FEARN - Warwickshire :: DEVOS - Scotland (Aberdeen)/France(Dunkerque) :: MURRAY - Ireland(Down)/Scotland(Lochs) :: TIGHE/TREACY - Cork

Mine is halfpint because that used to be my nickname by someone special to me, then it was brought to my attention in the Chat Room that there was a Half Pint on RC and was I the one and same.   No I wasn't so instead of changing to another name added the kiwi bit.

Cheers

Mine, because a manager in a call centre I once worked in (and hated nearly every minute of) put down "tenacious" as one of my supposed attributes in my performance management.  I wasn't a very good salesperson - apparently I was considered "too nice" (?!), but she at least recognised one thing in me - that I kept slogging away and didn't give up.

And then I realised that with all the ups and downs I've encountered over the years, the one thing that has kept me going is my tenacity. And she got me down to a T. ;D

Once I started my family history research, I thought it might be something to stand me in good stead!

My regular name is too common so rarely gets approved when unique names are required. As a child I was called Red (now that attribute comes from a bottle  ;)) & my dog's name is Mystic - hence the combo.   8)

Rishile, the comment about the pronunciation of your name came on the poem thread that was posted the last few weeks. I believe you rhymed something with your name & then someone commented that they were surprised at it. I think of the pronunciation everytime I see you now.  ;D
