John Elder

I have a John Elder on the English 1901 census. He is a sergeant in the Royal Artillery stationed at the Citadel in Plymouth.
He was born in County Derry around 1868/1870.
Do you think he joined up in Ireland or England. I am looking for his army records and have no idea where to look.
Thank you
Ann

Hi Ann

He could have enlisted anywhere in the UK. He almost certainly qualified for a pension, so you should look for his papers on Findmypast. If he served into WW1 his may have been lost in WW2 bombing.
