Nancy has become Agnes

That's not unusual. Agnes/Nancy/Nan/Ann(i)(e) can all be interchangeable.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Jeannie, this is great news, as it looks like we are related.

My direct line on the Loney side is my mum (maiden name Loney), gr-father Hugh Loney d-1978, gr-gr-father Hugh Loney d~1943, gr-gr-gr-father James Loney (born ~1867 with 7 siblings: Patrick, Margaret, Mary Ann, Dennis, Agnes, John), and finally my gr-gr-gr-gr-grandfather Denis Loney who married Nancy/Agnes McMullan (or McMillan?).

Do you have any further info?

It would seem we are 3rd cousins (once removed).  Sound's better than 42nd cousins...  It is interesting that your grandfather was called Hugh as well.  On the Scotlandspeople web page, there were only 2 Hugh's listed around the early 1900s, and it seems one was my great-grandfather and the other was your grandfather, and they were first-cousins.  I believe my great-great grandfather James was a coal miner and that was Denis's profession as he came over from Ireland to Glasgow, via Durham.

I recently found out that another member of the Loney family has done some research so we'll see what she has found out.  Once I have your email address, I will send you a copy of the Loney tree as I have it at the moment.

T.  I'm not aware of any middle name, or any distant William Loney.

My great-grandfather was Hugh Loney.  He was married to Mary (Petrie) in 1925 and I have their marriage cert.

However, I can find no record of Hugh's parents James Loney and Ellen (ms. O'Donnell).  I have tried SP and irish websites for their marriage and have found nothing.

James Loney was a coal miner - deceased at the time of Hugh's wedding in 1925.  Hugh was 31 and lived at 16 Elmvale Row.

Mary Petrie was also 31 and lived at 26 George St.  Her parents were David Petrie (deceased) and Mary (Connell).

If anyone can help with the Loney search that would be great.
