Hello, very new to all this.  hope it posts in the right place!  Searching for Henry S Murry Graham or his family. Capt then Major in Royal Artillary. Born Southsea Hants, abt 1848. Married to Annie E.  One  known child Andrew T G b.1881.  Last seen on 1881 Census.  Living in Throxenby Yorkshire.  They are key to finding Amelia E Cripps (mistranscribed Cupps) who was Nanny/Governess to the family for many years.  Any help greatly appreciated  :)

Hi welcome to Rootschat

I can't see the family anywhere in 1891, but the 1881 states for Henry "Capt In Royal Artiliery Adjutant Militia On Active List" so I wonder if he was posted abroad?

Hello, thanks everyone, we are hoping to look forward to the 1891 census.  They could be posted but how do we find out if they travelled abroad for the Army?

Members of the British Army stationed abroad were never fully enumerated until the 1911 Census. Instead the military authorities provided the Census Office with the numbers of officers, other ranks, wives and children, either by place or by regiment.

(I typed that out twice - computer blipped as I sent it the first time and it disappeard! Several posts made in the meantime I see)

Could they be in Scotland in 1891, you need someone with access to the Scottish censuses to check.

If yuo google Murrayshall, Perth it shows that it is now a hotel and golf course.
I didnt look at all the hits, but maybe there is some history of the house on some of them.
