1881 census is free to search, and , I believe, can be searched by address.

Or you can look for your Elizabeth, and see if she is there, and if not then where she actually is!

Having said that , nothing is coming up

What age was your Eliz. and who was her father on marriage cert (name and occupation)?

If we cant get her that way - then who did she marry - can we get her in 1891 and find her yr and place of birth that way?

You could also try Historical directories, which has a street directory for 1883 Manchester (cannot check at the moment, as it doesn't appear to be loading right now - its a great site but does fall over from time to time)

I can find no Backcroft Street in Manchester in the 1881 or 1891 censuses, or in the Directories

[/quote          Hi I have her in the 1891 census and have her marriage certificate to James Jones in 1883 ,her father was John Stevenson who was born in Padiham, there is I believe a Backcroft st in Padiham but imagined that because they were married in manchester that that is where backcroft st would be,the real problem is that I am trying to pursue her husband James Jones who says he was born in Holywell in 1861 but I have sent for every birth certificate for that year in Holywell and none are correct, will

It could be Back Croft Street, except there is no 99 Croft Street in 1881

What was the name of his father on the marriage certificate?

The 1891 census says he is aged 30, so he could have been born in 1860?

Hi,

Not sure if this is any help :-\
If you search for Elizab.A. LEES age:9 in Civil parish: Ashton Under Lyne she is living in Back Croft St. You could then look back and forward through the images, unfortunately the houses don't have numbers and I can't see an Elizabeth STEVENSON but maybe someone else will have more luck.

Regards,
Daisy
