Thanks All, :)
I think the JJ Snodgrass could be the one at Mendooran Cemetery. And also I came across a death notice that possibly indicates his son unfortunately this man has just passed away 6 days ago.
The J Snodgrass at the karrakatta cemetery in WA I think is someone different.
Will continue the search.....
Thanks,
buzzby :D

Hi buzzby,

I don't understand why you would eliminate the one at Karrakatta cemetery, and also I don't understand why you would favour the one at Mendooran cemetery.

You could well be right, but please don't dismiss any of the Snodgrass families mentioned on this thread, particularly not any that have a Western Australia connection.

The Mendooran chap certainly seems to have both WWI and WWII connections, BUT ... BUT ...  as YET , no apparent WA connection.

It is only my opinion, BUT ....  just because the initials match up, doesn't mean that they belong to either of the chaps at Wagga.  It could well be that the museum only accessed the nominal rolls rather than the NAA indexes to the actual service records  ..

To my way of thinking it is a HUGE leap to get from JJ Snodgrass on military artefacts found in Western Australia to a chap born in Wagga with the same initials and surname who served in both WWI and WWII....

Cheers,  JM

Hi majm, :)
The museum actually traced the service records, a comittee of people researched this and they believe that 1 personal item of militiary reference was definately that of John James Snodgrass b.1892 Wagga Wagga.

So all we can think of is that maybe someone inhereted these items and may have not understood the history behind them.
Thus being left in a old derelict home awaiting land fill.

The militiary museum thought they were of significant relevance and has displayed them appropriately.
cheers,
buzzby :)

Hi buzzby,

Many thanks for your explanation re the artefacts.

Good to know that they were able to pinpoint the JJ Snodgrass to Wagga and to the chap born there in 1892 as opposed to the JHJ Snodgrass born Wagga in 1894.

Cheers,  JM

John James Snodgrass who was born in Wagga served in both WW1 and WW2. He was involved in the Japanese breakout at Cowra.
He is my grandfather.
He did not live in WA.
He lived at Wagga, Sydney, The Rock, Merrygoen and finally Mendooran where he raised his family. I am keen to know what the objects were and in which museum they are displayed. I can then pass this information onto his surviving children.
His eldest son turns 90 today. Another of his sons, Brian, died a few months ago
Thank you

Cassandra

Hi to all participants, the j.j.snodgrass that has been under discussion was my grandfather (and hero) and this matter has become of prime importance to his family. jim enlisted whilst living at merrygoen and after his service he returned home on the Morvada. It is quite possible this ship docked in perth and jim had a very good mate, "muckup" maccoll, who came from perth that most likely returned on the same ship. did jim visit the family during the stopover? the derelict farmhouse also contained documents relating to the mackey family so i may be confused about the name. I would dearly love to know what items were found and which museum they are in. my sister and i would then travel to perth to view them. Buzzby: if you are still monitoring these responses please reply i would be so grateful. regards, Freddyboy.
