Lussinagh Spa,Tralee, Kerry
« on: Tuesday 14 June 11 21:53 BST (UK) »
can anyone help me with this address. It is given on a soldier's medal card in June 1920

Lussinagh Spa,Tralee, Kerry

I cannot get anything out of Goggle, and I suspect that there may have been a transcription error

I can't find anything that might be Lussinagh but Spa or the Spa is a village on the north side of Tralee Bay between Fenit and Tralee town.
Suspect Lussinagh is a mistranscription as I would expect it to start with Lis. Placenames starting with Lus are rare.

Thanks

My geography of Kerry is not that good! This is the actual writing

I think that he might have been in RIC at the time (June 1920), but am not sure.

maybe Lassinah - it seems to be a house located in the townland of Ballygarran, near to the village of Spa, between Tralee and Fenit as annclare mentioned - see : link   (click either of the historic map options)

Thanks Shane

That certainly looks like the right place, it is near Spa and is a near enough rendering of what is written on the medal card.

All I have to do is work out what he was doing there at that date.  :)

Hi,
It is definitely Lassinagh, The Spa. It was once a beautiful  property, now sadly in ruins. In the mid C19th. it was owned by John Day Stokes. In the early C20th. Oliver Robert Stokes lived there ,but it changed ownership soon after that. I live very near it and could probably find out more information on it if you were interested.
Regards,
Joan Holland

Joan

That is very kind of you to offer, but I think I have enough for my purposes at the moment, as I was trying to establish where exactly he was living at that time in Kerry.

I still do not quite understand why he was there, and writing for his medals from there

I was trying to trace a man called Luxton - my notes on this link - who joined the Auxiliaries moved to the RIC and then moved on to the Palestine Police. I never succeeded in finding out too much about him, and thought that this address might give me a lead

There was an RIC Barracks just down the road in Spa village at the time, so he was probably working there and staying in Lassinagh House.
